Storybook is an open-source tool that helps you develop UI components in isolation. It runs in your codebase, but separately from your application. It's like a sandbox, allowing you to not get distracted by incomplete APIs, flaky data, and other external dependencies. It integrates with frameworks like React, Vue, Svelte, Angular, and many others!

With Storybook, you can ease the development of a design system and share a common language with designers. QA's can get an overview and test functionalities in isolation. Stakeholders can use it for demo purposes. Overall, Storybook helps connect all of these people, greatly improving collaboration!

In this course, we will unleash the full potential of Storybook for React apps. We start from the basics of Storybook and later switch to a real world application, learning how to develop features directly in Storybook, saving lots of development time and at the same time, creating a living documentation of components and features.

You will also learn how to mock fetch requests, add Redux, theming and routing support to Storybook, and add full pages to it. You're going to even add entire pages to Storybook, allowing you to simulate all use cases you want in isolation for easy access!

On top of that, you'll be using the latest features of Storybook such as interactions, combining the power of Storybook wrappers for Testing library and Jest that run in the browser to write stories with automated interactions!

## Storybook is not just for component libraries

After going through this module, you might have a different perspective on Storybook. People usually hear about Storybook as a tool for simple component libraries, but by now, you have seen the potential that it brings to developing features and full pages as well.

Going back to the advantages we mentioned in the [first lesson of this module](./section-overview-module-4#but-wait,-why-add-entire-pages?):

### An easy way to visualize all possible scenarios of that page. Good for demoing and documenting business rules

We applied this to the `RestaurantDetailPage` component. This is great:

1.  For developers who are building the page, as it helps focus on the page and less on unnecessary integration setup during initial development.
2.  For developers who are going to make changes in the page but didn't build it, as it provides them information, possible scenarios to test, and the ability to check all corner cases and be confident about those changes.
3.  For demoing the work you are doing. Being able to quickly provide a Storybook build so that stakeholders can test what you're doing even before it's ready allows you to have shorter feedback cycles. The non-technical people in your team can also present the components from Storybook directly to other teams or stakeholders.
4.  For designers and developers, who can connect design tools and validate the developed component against the actual design.
5.  For UX designers, who can use the pages on Storybook for user testing and UX research. This is a rather interesting take on high-fidelity prototyping. You could generate a sort of A/B scenario for your pages, and those scenarios would just be different stories. The designers could open the story URL on a computer or mobile and present it to users for feedback.
