With React Native, the most important thing is to understand the ecosystem and how it comes together to create an app. By understanding the overall architecture, we will be able to take the full of advantage the platform.

The course will start by covering the fundamentals like setting up the navigation, setting up the screens, styles, and the UI elements, before moving on to more advanced topics such as state management, crash/error reporting, setting up analytics and middlewares, debugging, and performance optimizations. We will also learn how to avoid/fix frame drops - possibly the most watched parameter of any UI application.

## CodePush

> CodePush is Microsoft's App Center cloud service that enables Apache Cordova and React Native developers to deploy mobile app updates directly to their users' devices.

## Installation

To use CodePush, we need to add the app to [AppCenter.ms](https://AppCenter.ms). Create a free account on the site to begin.

### Add app

To add a new app, click Add new at the top right corner of the dashboard:

Select the following options:

-   **App name**: Give the app a name
-   **Release Type**: Select a type eg alpha, beta
-   **OS**: Android
-   **Platform**: React Native

Great - we've added our app!

## CLI

App Center provides a CLI. It needs to be installed once, and then we can use it for any of our React Native apps.

### Integrate with app

Install `react-native-code-push` using yarn or npm:

```shell
yarn add --save react-native-code-push
```

or

```shell
npm install --save react-native-code-push
```

Then, for iOS:

```shell
cd ios && pod install
```

We will need a CodePush key for each platform. Open App Center and go to your newly added app, then Distribute -> CodePush, and press on the top-right tool icon to get the key.
