Application development with custom elements is not unlike application development with any other library or framework. JavaScript libraries prescribe various ways of working. React, for example, prefers a functional implementation, while Vue applications export an Object-based configuration in each file. The absence of such framework-level abstractions can be intimidating for anyone attempting to develop an application purely with Web Components. How you architect an application with vanilla JavaScript and browser specifications is up to you, but the rewards are great. By minimizing library dependencies, you can ensure the application bundle(s) are small in file size. Less JavaScript for the browser to interpret as the page loads can translate to a more performant solution. Users would have less time to wait to interact with content.

There is nothing stopping you from using existing frameworks as inspiration when developing with custom elements. Anyone who has coded with Angular may have noticed the similarity between Angular's 

. You could come up with low-level functions that enable application development similar to any UI framework you're comfortable with. In this chapter, you'll implement patterns for application development using custom elements that are only one opinion of how an application could be developed. The possibilities are seemingly endless! Specifically, you'll develop the landing page of the application using custom elements and class-based services that communicate with backend APIs over http requests.
