To begin development of the landing page, we should implement the view. The view is just another custom element, so we'll import methods from

## Landing Page

To begin development of the landing page, we should implement the view. The view is just another custom element, so we'll import methods from `@in/common` and establish a template and styling for the entire view. Since any UI components displayed on the landing page will be in the template of `MainView`, we can use this component as a development environment of sorts for the remainder of this chapter. One difference between the custom elements in the application and user library developed in previous chapters is we're going to declare the template and styling for each component outside of the `class` and then set the `style` and `template` properties on the `@Component` decorator. This will help us refactor the components for server-side rendering in Chapter Twelve.

All development in this chapter happens in `packages/client/src`. A directory named `view` has already been scaffolded in here, so create a file named `MainView.ts` in this directory, then open the file with your favorite IDE. Let's make another directory named `main` and put `MainView.ts` in there.

In `MainView.ts`, import the necessary `function` and decorators from `@in/common` needed for an autonomous custom element.

Declare two `const` for the CSS styling and template for the component named `styles` and `shadowTemplate` respectively. You can set these to template strings, calling the appropriate `css` or `html` function exported from `@in/common`.

Using the `@Component` decorator, declare a new custom element with the selector `main-view` and set the `style` and `template` properties to the two `const` you declared prior. Export a new `class` named `MainView` that extends `HTMLElement`, like any other autonomous custom element. Opt to use Shadow DOM for this component in the `constructor` by calling `attachShadow`.
