## Summary

Dialogs are a common user interface component in enterprise-grade applications. In this chapter you developed two types of dialogs: modals and tooltips. By abstracting each type to autonomous custom elements, you were able to isolate the view (`ModalComponent` and `TooltipComponent`) from another autonomous custom element that acted like a controller in the traditional sense of MVC. `DialogComponent` handled the state of a single dialog, delivering a model through HTML attributes to a dynamically generated instance of a dialog.

While giving engineers an interface to declare dialogs alongside the elements that trigger their display in DOM, you ran into an issue where Shadow DOM could obscure the elements from being queried with `querySelector`. The `query function` you wrote traverses Shadow boundaries, querying for DOM nodes with a selector similar to `querySelector`.
