We've created a problem by encapsulating the HTMLInputElement by Shadow DOM. The HTMLInputElement API cann't be accessed by the outside world. In this section, you'll fix that by implementing getters and setters that emulate the HTMLInputElement on TextInputComponent.

## Summary

In this chapter we streamlined Web Component development by coding two TypeScript decorators and several reusable functions.

-   `Component` handles custom element registration, template and styling.
-   `Listen` creates and destroys event listeners, binding `class` methods to the callback of `addEventListener`
-   `attachShadow` handles appending a `ShadowRoot` to any custom element that can accept `ShadowDOM`
-   `attachStyle` handles CSS for any custom element that can't encapsulate styles with `ShadowDOM`
-   `attachTemplate` appends a HTML template to a custom element that can't use `ShadowDOM`
-   `html` and `css` enable syntax highlighting in a user's IDE

We exported these `function` from a new package called `@in/common`, then refactored the three components from Part One to leverage this new micro-library. By learning how to use TypeScript decorators to provide a similar interface as a major JavaScript framework like Angular, we wrangled the primary use cases for custom element development. One feature we didn't tackle was data binding, but even that could be added to the micro-library with a minimal hit to performance. Right now the micro-library is sitting pretty. Without `Listen`, `@in/common` can optimize down to 597 bytes gzipped (Closure Compiler Simple Optimizations). By importing `Listen` into a project, the bundle size for the micro-library becomes 903 bytes gzipped (Closure Compiler Simple Optimizations). Not too shabby for the interface we gain out of `@in/common`.
